Guard Your Heart and Mind

Guard your heart & mind

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7 (NASB)

Throughout the different seasons in my life, I can say that portions of this Scripture have stood as powerful truths that I have clung to. Having been raised in the church this was and is a familiar, often quoted piece of Scripture.  Yet still, I’m in awe of the variety of gems in this treasure trove of truth.

Read Philippians 4:6-7 again.

Which part stands out to you?

Today, for me it is the ‘guard your hearts and minds’.  Specifically the word: GUARD

Guard in the greek is PHRUOREO -froo-reh'-o

Meaning: to guard, protect by a military guard, either to prevent a hostile invasion, or

to keep the inhabitants of a besieged city from flight.

Consider this…

Peace is no little thing.

A military battle tactic used by GOD and for our good.

Hear me out.

When we choose to bring everything to God in prayer and petition with thanksgiving…

THE LORD promises us HIS peace.

And you know what friends? WE WANT THAT PEACE.

God’s peace, is far greater AND surpasses all other ‘peace’ options this world, the Enemy and our flesh, try to sell as sufficient.

In fact, GOD’s peace is the exact militant tool we need as the world, the Enemy and our flesh rage war against the fortified cities of our soul, known as the heart and mind.

When we give it ALL to Jesus…

When we surrender it all…

God gives HIS peace to GUARD our hearts and minds in order to protect from a hostile invasion.

A Hostile invasion can look like fears that cause immobility, depression, anxiety, etc.

His peace also keeps us when everything around us is at war against us.

In fact, in the Scriptures He is given the name FORTRESS.

This is a military stronghold, a fortified town that holds a large garrison.

Invision it with me…

A massive walled city guarded not by strong men, but rather the army of the LORD GOD...

This, THIS is how HE guards HIS children.

WHY wouldn’t we chose to entrust HIM with our ‘everything’

KNOWING this promise of PEACE can be ours?

Heart Check:

What am I holding on to and not entrusting God with?

Hint: It will be the thing that causes most unrest in our lives…

because we are not at rest in HIS peace.

Bend your knee, Bow your heart.

Repent for not giving it up.

Offer it up to the FATHER God now.

SING a SONG of Thanksgiving.

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

 John 14:27 (NASB)

“You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you.”

Isaiah 26:3 (CSB)

I pray you are encouraged!! In His grace, Emily
