Guard Your Heart and Mind
The Essence of Life
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NASB)
Throughout the different seasons in my life, I can say that portions of this Scripture have stood as powerful truths that I have clung to. Having been raised in the church this was and is a familiar, often quoted piece of Scripture. In fact, focusing in on it now, I’m in awe of the variety of gems in this treasure trove of truth.

“Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites would invade the land in the spring of the year. As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet.” 2 Kings 13:20-21 (NASB)
Always, always begin your study in prayer by asking the Holy Spirit to counsel you and to open your mind in understanding the scriptures. God gives wisdom to those who ask for it (James 1:5). Pray also for a soft heart to receive what the mind is learning…we don’t want just head knowledge- we want it to drop down to our heart and LIVE IT!
